Beckett is one of our newest Happy Tail Club members, and we’ve had the wonderful opportunity to walk him weekly since he was a puppy! At 5 months of age now, Beckett still has so much fun puppy energy, and is growing into such a handsome dog!
His Pawrents Lauren and Jason got Beckett from Antelope Acres of California and went all the way to Colorado to pick him up and bring him back to Florida! Lauren had grown up with collies and Jason fell in love with them when he met Lauren’s family’s pets. Luckily for Beckett, Lauren and Jason have decided to uphold their tradition of raising collies. They chose the name Beckett from a list of names for male dogs, and Beckett rang out as the perfect name! They sometimes call him by his full name, Beckett Thomas, when he is getting into mischief. :)
Beckett is a Blue Merle Collie, and is definitely one of the most handsome dogs I’ve ever met! Each week when I walk him, people stop and say “What a beautiful dog! How handsome!!” I completely agree. Beckett loves meeting people and other dogs on our walks. He is so friendly and seems intent on observing people’s activities, listening to the sounds in the neighborhood, and of course, sniffing shrubs and flowers! He loves to chase lizards in the grass in the afternoons, and is usually up for a nice long walk in the morning!
Some of the favorite milestones and memories that Beckett’s Pawrents enjoy include taking Beckett to Lauren’s mom’s lakehouse to play with their 4 year old collie. The collies love to run and play and jump in the lake. Lauren says Beckett looks 20 lighter when he’s soaking wet. She says Beckett also loves pouncing in puddles, splashing his paws in his water bowl, and is obsessed with sprinklers, but of course - like all dogs - hates his bath!
It’s been a real joy taking care of Beckett, and being a part of him growing up this year. We’re looking forward to many more fun moments as we watch Beckett grow!
I’m not monkeying around when I say we love our club member, Monkey! I’ve had the pleasure of walking Monkey every weekday for several months now, and am so grateful to be able to help care for him.
Monkey has had to deal with some adversities in life, but nothing gets him down! It’s why his pawrent, Carolyn, calls him her “life lesson”. “No matter what’s thrown at him, he’s always good natured, gentle, and sweet.” Unfortunately, Monkey was originally found wandering the streets of Sarasota and deals with seizures and atypical Addison’s Disease. He went through several foster homes and couldn’t quite seem to find his perfect family.
Morris, Carolyn's husband, had some fond memories of a friend’s Boston Terrier, so they decided to apply to become a foster home for the Boston Terrier Rescue of Central Florida. One day the rescue asked them if they’d consider a dog with epilepsy and other special care needs. Morris and Carolyn both have experience in health care, so they felt they’d have the compassion and patience to help care for a dog like that.
Sure enough, when they received Monkey’s profile, they instantly fell in love! First of all, how can you not love a name like Monkey? J His profile included a picture of him in a red bowtie. He’s such a handsome fellow, well behaved, doesn’t bark, and loves walks. When Monkey was brought to their house and they saw his swagger and perky ears, they knew it was a perfect match.
Since then, he’s been a happy pup with Carolyn and Morris. One of their favorite things that he does is his habit of getting ready for bed. He “completely swaddles himself in his blanket, from his nose to his toes, in a big ball and sleeps through the night.” So cute!
I love getting to walk him every day and watch him speed up as he sniffs all the plants on the trail! He really gets on a mission and I’m always surprised at how far we end up walking. Sometimes when we stop for a break he’s happy to give me and other friends we pass kisses. He’s such a loving dog, and he’s lucky to have such a loving family with Carolyn and Morris! Sometimes it takes a while to find the right family, but it’s always worth it. I know they’re happy Monkey is in their life, and I’m happy to know him too!
Meet the ever-handsome Jasper, one of our long-term HTC members!
His Pawrent, Chelsea, adopted him back in 2008 when she first came to Florida, and instantly knew he was perfect for her the moment she saw his sweet face. He was lucky she found him, because fast forward 11 years and he's still living his best life with her!! One of Chelsea's favorite memories with Jasper is when she and her husband took him to the beach for a weekend. She says he had so much fun hanging out on the patio watching the ocean and people!
If you ever meet Jasper, you'll see why he's such an awesome pup. He's got such a calm and chill personality, which is not all that common in terrier breeds! Any time we go on a walk he promptly does his business, and then is ready for some belly rubs when we get back. He's always so sweet and I love getting to walk him every week!!
So how did he get his name? It's a bit random, but apparently he started out as Jay Jay before Chelsea adopted him. But as she says, "he's clearly a Jasper!". With such a handsome face, I couldn't agree more! :)
I’d like to give a special shout-out to one of our first Happy Tails Club Members, Elmer! Elmer is originally from Miramar, FL, though we all know he’s actually from France, right? ;)
His “pawrents”, Kristina and Jeremy, had been talking about getting a French bulldog for years, and once they settled down and got situated after dating long distance for several years, they knew it was time to find their forever pup! They’d been following a great breeder online, and once they saw a photo of Elmer, they immediately fell in love. So according to them, they met online. How modern!
Elmer is so fun to watch – he’s happy to keep himself entertained by throwing his ball around the house, or when it’s time to chill he’s content to chew on his favorite yak cheese. I personally love it when I get there to visit him, and he immediately goes to his basket to pick out a toy ‘cause he knows it’s playtime. So cute!
His parents love that he treats his crate like his bedroom. He’ll put himself to bed when it’s time to nap (honestly, don’t we all love naps?), and it’s the most adorable thing ever!
So how’d he get his name? Kristina says the idea popped into Jeremy’s head after trying to think of things that went with his white fur… finally “Elmer, like the glue” clicked! And since it’s kind of an older name, it works well with his squishy face and cute wrinkles.
I’m definitely a fan, and it’s easy to see why Elmer is one of the regular highlights of my Instagram feed. :)
Toby & Simon!
I'd like to introduce you to another adorable pair in the Happy Tails Club! Meet Toby and Simon, two Miniature Schnauzers with big personalities! They both come from far away places, but are now happy at home in Florida with their owners Tony and Tomás.
Simon actually comes all the way from the UK (hence why his ears and tail are not cropped, being illegal there)! He belonged to Tomás' brother who lived and worked there. When Tomás' brother unfortunately passed away, Tomás thought immediately of Simon and knew we wanted to keep him in the family. He brought him to the US, and Simon has brought joy to his family here in Florida ever since for the past six years.
Toby caught Tony and Tomás' eye at an adoption event here in Orlando a little over a year ago. Toby's origin is a bit of a mystery, but they do know he was originally from Idaho! Somehow he ended up in a shelter in Venice, FL. When they saw him at the adoption event, they knew it was their chance to welcome a sweet new friend into their family.
Toby and Simon have quite different but distinct personalities. Simon is very quiet and dignified (perhaps because he's British? ) while Toby is very loving and playful. Any time we come back to the house after a walk Toby immediately wants to play! Simon may be quiet but he's a very good guard dog and will speak his mind if he sees another small dog on our walks!
Tony and Tomás love their pup's personalities and have said that one of the cutest things they do is "pawing" at them when they want something. Once Simon moved to Florida it took him about a week to "paw" Tomás, telling him he wanted to play or be pet. His brother had talked about Simon's "paw" and he knew that it was special when he finally did it with him. And Toby loves to show off his skills with the "paw" command and will willingly put up his paw for a treat!!
It took Simon a little time to adjust to Toby joining the family, but once he accepted him, they've become quite the pair. I love their personalities and getting to walk them every week has been such a joy for me!
Sallie & Mindy!
I'd like to introduce you to two of the original Happy Tails Club Members! Meet Sallie and Mindy, the cutest pair of beagles you'll ever meet. I'm lucky to have been walking them every weekday for almost six months now!
Sallie and Mindy have a really sweet adoption story. Their mom, LaTasha, says they were abandoned in front of a hunting club. Dogma, a pet rescue organization in Tampa, found them and wanted to keep them together, if possible, because they were totally bonded. It's thought that they're either litter mates or mother/daughter. Unfortunately, they weren't having any luck being adopted together, so Dogma tested fostering them with different families. When they eventually brought Sallie and Mindy back together, it was like a family reunion, so they decided they'd have to be adopted together. They were in a foster home together for eleven months before they finally found their "furever" home.
LaTasha had had beagles before (Lulu and Penny for ten years) and knew she'd want to adopt two, so they could keep each other company. When she saw Sallie and Mindy's story on Petfinder, she knew it was meant to be!
Now, they are one big, happy family, and it's obvious how loved they are! One of LaTasha's favorite memories of them is bringing them home from daycare, and seeing them fall asleep together in the back of the car before they reach the corner. Mindy usually has her head rested on Sallie's back. How adorable!!
Mindy is a huge lovebug. In fact, it's usually a struggle to get her harness on, because she just wants non-stop belly rubs! She usually doesn't bark, but if Sallie starts up, Mindy joins in due to FOMO. ;)
Sallie is so smart and loves long walks. That girl could walk all day, non-stop, if we had the time! And if she catches the scent of a squirrel, she'll let you and the whole neighborhood know! Apparently she's really good at getting her granny (LaTasha's mom) to sneak her a french fry every once in a while, too. :P
The two of them are quite a pair, and are one of the highlights of my day every week! Thanks to LaTasha for being such a wonderful client!
